PMBA – Pôle Mer Bretagne Atlantique

Created in 2005, Pôle Mer Bretagne Atlantique (PMBA) is a maritime innovation business cluster, located in the Western part of France. Its mission is to develop a competitive maritime economy by stimulating and encouraging collaboration. Its expertise is based on 6 main topics: maritime safety and security, marine energy and mining resources, shipbuilding and leisure boatbuilding, marine biological resources, coastal and environmental planning and management as well as maritime ports, infrastructure and transport. PMBA is the core of a network in which major companies, SMEs, research centres and higher education institutions combine their ideas and skills to develop innovative collaborative projects in the maritime sector.

With a current membership of more than 380, PMBA possesses a substantial knowledge of maritime RTD capabilities and is willing to share its experience in order to consolidate RTD and business capabilities. The approach is driven by the need to develop the maritime economy and create employment by innovation. Pôle Mer Bretagne Atlantique fosters contacts, with the aim of encouraging competitiveness for each of the players in the maritime economy. Ultimately new products and services developed from key technologies create economic activity and employment. Since 2005, Pole Mer Bretagne Atlantique has certified 362 collaborative R&D projects representing a total R&D budget of more than 1140 M€ (including 335 M€ of public funds).
